What is SEO?

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the work of improving your website so it appears higher in unpaid Google results for the searches your customers make. Better rankings bring more visitors without paying for each click. SEO covers your website's technical health, your page content and the links that point to your site.

SEO works on three things:

  • Technical health, so Google can find and read your pages
  • Content, so each page answers what people search
  • Authority, so Google trusts your site enough to rank it

Visits from unpaid results are called organic traffic. SEO takes months to build, but it keeps working without a payment for each click. Our SEO services in Pakistan page shows how we do the work, and how long SEO takes explains the timeline.

What is the full form of SEO?

The full form of SEO is Search Engine Optimization. It means improving a website so search engines such as Google can find it, understand it and show it higher in results. SEO is also used for Search Engine Optimizer, the specialist who does this work. The British spelling is optimisation.

How does SEO work?

SEO works in three steps. Google crawls pages to find them, adds useful pages to its index, then ranks the best matches when someone searches. SEO makes your site easy to crawl, clearly relevant to the search and trusted enough to rank, using good content, a fast and clean website and links from other sites.

How search engines work and what SEO changes
StepWhat Google doesWhat SEO does
CrawlFinds pages by following linksFixes site structure and submits a sitemap
IndexStores and understands each pageUses clear titles, content and structured data
RankPicks the best results for each searchBuilds relevance, trust, speed and links

Google uses many signals to rank pages and does not publish the full list. Results build slowly, as how long SEO takes to show results explains.

4

What work is done each month in SEO?

Monthly SEO work usually covers technical checks, updates to service pages, new blog content, link building, local profile work and a report. The exact list depends on your plan and competition. Ask any provider for a written monthly task list before you pay, so you can see what you are buying.

Typical monthly SEO tasks
TaskWhat it involves
Technical checkFix errors, speed problems and indexing issues
On-page workImprove titles, headings and service pages
ContentPublish new blog posts and pages that answer searches
Link buildingEarn links from other relevant websites

The table at the end of this page shows this work in numbers for each NexPrime plan, and our SEO packages page lists every deliverable. Our guide on how to choose an SEO agency lists what to ask for in a monthly report.

5

What are the types of SEO?

The main types of SEO are on-page SEO, off-page SEO and technical SEO. Other types focus on a goal or a place, including local SEO for nearby customers, ecommerce SEO for online stores and international SEO for several countries. Most businesses need a mix of types, not only one.

The main types of SEO

What is on-page SEO?

On-page SEO is everything you improve on the pages of your own website so they match what people search. It covers page titles, meta descriptions, headings, written content, internal links, image alt text and URLs. Good on-page SEO tells Google and visitors clearly what each page is about.

Main on-page SEO elements
ElementWhat to do
Title tagPut the main keyword near the start and keep it short
Meta descriptionWrite a clear summary that invites the click
HeadingsUse one main heading and clear subheadings
ContentAnswer the question fully in plain words
Internal linksLink related pages with clear anchor text
Image alt textDescribe each image in a few words
URLKeep it short, readable and in lowercase

Our on-page SEO service page explains how we apply this to client websites.

7

What is off-page SEO?

Off-page SEO is the work done outside your website that builds your trust and authority. The biggest part is earning backlinks from other reputable sites. It also includes brand mentions, reviews and trusted directory listings. Google treats good links as a sign of trust, so quality matters more than quantity.

Common off-page activities:

  • Earning links from relevant websites and blogs
  • Brand mentions in articles, news and industry lists
  • Customer reviews on Google and other platforms
  • Listings in trusted business directories
  • Guest articles that are useful to the reader

Question 9 covers backlinks in detail, and our off-page SEO service page shows how we build links for clients.

8

What is technical SEO?

Technical SEO is the work that helps search engines crawl, understand and index your website. It covers site speed, mobile friendliness, secure HTTPS, a clean site structure, XML sitemaps, robots.txt rules, structured data and fixing errors such as broken links. It is the base that all other SEO work stands on.

Main parts of technical SEO
AreaWhy it matters
CrawlabilityGoogle must be able to reach your pages
IndexingOnly indexed pages can appear in results
Site speedSlow pages lose visitors and rankings
Mobile friendlinessMany visitors browse on phones, so pages must work well on small screens
HTTPSA secure site builds trust with visitors and Google
Structured dataHelps search engines understand your content
Broken links and redirectsErrors waste crawl time and frustrate visitors

Our technical SEO service page covers this work, and you can run a first check with our free SEO audit tool.

9

What are backlinks and how does link building work?

A backlink is a link from another website to yours. Link building is the work of earning those links through useful content, partnerships, listings and outreach. Backlinks act as signs of trust, so a few links from relevant, respected sites help more than many from poor ones. Buying links in bulk can get a site penalized.

Healthy and risky backlinks compared
Healthy linksRisky links
Relevant industry and local sitesPaid link networks
News and media mentionsComment and forum spam
Real business directoriesThousands of cheap links at once
Useful guest articlesLinks from unrelated or low quality sites

NexPrime plans include 10 to 30 backlinks a month, and the top plan adds 5 premium backlinks. The plan table at the end of this page shows each level.

10

What is the difference between SEO and SEM?

SEO earns unpaid search results by improving your website over time. SEM, or search engine marketing, usually means paid search ads such as Google Ads, where you pay each time someone clicks. Some people use SEM to cover both. SEO builds slowly and lasts, while ads bring visitors fast but stop when you stop paying.

SEO and SEM compared
AreaSEOSEM (paid ads)
Cost per visitNo payment for each clickYou pay for each click
SpeedBuilds over monthsVisitors can arrive within days
After you stopRankings usually remain for a whileVisitors stop when the budget stops
Best forSteady, long term growthFast leads and short offers

Many businesses use both: ads for fast leads while SEO grows. If you are unsure which suits your budget, book a free consultation.

What does an SEO audit include?

An SEO audit is a full check of your website to find what holds back its rankings. It covers technical health, on-page elements, content, backlinks and competitors, and ends with a prioritized list of fixes. A good audit tells you what to fix first, not only what is wrong.

What an SEO audit covers
AreaWhat the audit checks
TechnicalCrawling, indexing, speed, mobile use and HTTPS
On-pageTitles, descriptions, headings and internal links
ContentMissing topics, thin pages and duplicate pages
BacklinksLink quality, risky links and gaps against competitors
CompetitorsWhat higher ranking sites do better

12

Is SEO dead?

No, SEO is not dead, but it has changed. People still search on Google every day, and AI answers still need good web pages to quote. Old tricks such as keyword stuffing and cheap links no longer work. Helpful content, a sound website and real authority are what still win.

  • Keyword stuffing and bulk links no longer work and can cause penalties
  • Answers now appear in AI Overviews and AI tools as well as in the results list
  • Clear, trustworthy pages are what AI tools quote
  • Local searches and Google Maps still drive calls and visits

Our AEO and AI search FAQs explain how to be quoted in AI answers, and SEO vs AEO shows how the two work together.
